New Training Supports the International Growth of DFR Programs

Redondo Beach, CA (April 25, 2023) – Drone service provider, Flying Lion, Inc., is proud to announce the first formalized Drone as First Responder (DFR) Air Support Officer (ASO) training. DFR programs enable the immediate dispatch of a drone in response to a 911 call for the purpose of real-time aerial situational awareness, in advance of, and to support ground units to enhance community and first responder safety.

Based on numerous agency requests and recently, public safety organization DRONERESPONDERS calling 2023 “The Year of DFR,” Flying Lion has developed a two-day course to provide comprehensive Air Support Officer (ASO) training to support agencies with existing and planned DFR Operations.

Air Support Officers — also called Teleoperators or Remote Operators, are usually sworn law enforcement personnel who operate the DFR drone remotely. Due to the highly specialized nature of this role, expert training is recommended.

Quote from Flying Lion President & Founder, Barry Brennan

“DFR programs are keeping community members, police officers and suspects safer everyday.  We’re proud to bring to market a truly unique DFR training program – one that will not only teach the basic and advanced ASO skills – but will be taught by fellow sworn officers who have 1,000s of hours of DFR experience.”

Designed by and for law enforcement officers, this course combines classroom and hands-on/remote flying for the best learning experience. The curriculum includes:

  • Area of Operations
  • Responding to Calls for Service
  • On-scene Best Practices
  • BVLOS Operations
  • Operating Multiple Locations
  • Current Case Law
  • Hands-on Flying with Software of Your Choice

The initial class will be offered in the Los Angeles area but will soon be offered in various parts of the US and Canada:

June 6 & 7, 2023

Los Angeles, CA

The price for the 2-day course is: $995 per student (with discounts available for agencies sending 3 or more ASOs)
