Montgomery County Launches Enhanced Drone Program to Boost Emergency Response

Montgomery County is expanding its “Drone as First Responder” program, which is designed to improve emergency response efficiency. This initiative, funded with a $350,000 budget, will deploy drones to critical areas in downtown Silver Spring and Wheaton. These drones will be used to assess emergency situations before ground officers arrive, potentially reducing response times and improving safety. 

“Now nine months old, the program has become a national leader among some 50 programs using drones as “first responders” that are either in development or operating in the United States, according to the officials.“ – Dan Morse

METRO Awards Flying Lion 3 Year Contract for Security Services

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has awarded Flying Lion a 3 year contract to provide Drone security observation services that utilize video and infrared technology, to provide a safe and secure environment for the entire Metro system.

Yonkers PD to use drones as first responders (DFR) in new pilot program

Yonkers will pilot a new program this summer called “Drone as a First Responder” which would allow for an emergency police response to priority calls in a matter of seconds.

On Tuesday, police tested their equipment in conjunction with Flying Lion, a drone service for public safety, to perfect the drone and its systems before police begin a 60-day trial period.
Officials say the drone can completely change the concept of policing.
“A suspect that’s fleeing the scene of the crime before officers are able to get there by car or by foot, obviously the drone in the air will be able to give officers an indication of where that suspect went and be able to follow them discreetly, and apprehend him safely,” said Yonkers Police Spokesman Frank Didomizio.
